High School Football Semi-Finals Set -
Almost!
Well playoff
fans....the semi final matchups are almost
set.....except for one.
The quarter
final game pitting the WJ Mouat Hawks and
the Kelowna Owls could not be played on
Saturday as both teams were grounded
due to snow in the Okanagan. The game
will instead be played today in Abbotsford -
weather permitting. You guessed
it....snow is forecast for the Abbotsford
area.
All other
matchups in the AAA and AA Division were
decided on Friday and Saturday at UBC's
Thunderbird Stadium.

Reports:
ST.
THOMAS MORE 35 CENTENNIAL 32
The "Thrilla in
Manila" was nothing in comparison to the
"Pounder on the Point" - heart
pounder that is.
The #1-ranked
St. Thomas More Knights appeared ready to
become an early-round victim of the Subway
Bowl playoffs on Friday night.
After all, the
unranked Centennial Centaurs had put 20
straight points on them, and with under five
minutes remaining in the quarterfinal tilt
at UBC’s Thunderbird Stadium, the unbeaten
Knights were trailing 32-21.
But then the
snow started to fall and
Mikey Carney
woke up from a game-long slumber. First,
after STM blocked a punt and helped give the
Knights possession deep in Centennial
territory, Carney threw an eight-yard
scoring pass that cut the lead to 32-27 with
4:49 left.
Then, after the
Knights got the ball back, Carney led his
team on a 70-yard game-winning drive that
culminated with a three-yard touchdown run
by Elliott Nelson with 2:02 remaining to
make the 35-32 final complete
On that drive,
Carney twice hit receivers on third-and-10,
first to Alex Golding, and then to
Gio Trasolini
who went out of bounds at the Centennial
33.
Carney then
peeled off a 12-yard run to the 21-yard
line, then hit Golding again, this time at
the 12-tard line.
Of Carney,
head coach Bernie Kully said: “He just has
that calmness about him. He’s like having a
coach on the field.”
STM next faces Mt. Douglas in next weekend’s
semifinals.
MOUNT
DOUGLAS 42 LORD TWEEDSMUIR 29
VICTORIA — The
No. 4-ranked Mt. Douglas Rams have shown
themselves to be a team with one of the most
dangerous aerial attacks in B.C. high school
football. But like all great teams, the Rams
showed Friday at Bear Mountain Park that it
can also change its face and be just as
successful with the running game..
NCAA Div 1
-bound (Washington State),Terrell Davis,
carried 16 times for 160 yards and two
scores, and also added a touchdown off a
95-yard kick-off return. Mason Swift carried
15 times for 153 yards and one touchdown.
VERNON
16 RICK HANSEN 12
VANCOUVER — The
Vernon Panthers, the mystery men of the
Subway Bowl B.C. high school football
playoffs, proved a pretty big point on
Friday night at Thunderbird Stadium.
The Okanagan
Conference’s Double A teams don’t have to
settle for early exits in the Subway Bowl
playoffs.
Despite
travelling with a roster of just 17 players,
not starting its season until others had
already played three times, and never
venturing outside of its Okanagan Conference
during the regular season, the unranked
Panthers suddenly find themselves one win
away from a berth in the Subway Bowl final.
JOHN
BARSBY 40 ABBOTSFORD 6
About the only
thing that has B.C. high school football’s
reigning juggernaut even the least bit
frazzled was the fact that they had to beat
a path out of Vancouver for the ferry
terminal on Friday night, in order to catch
the last sailing back to Nanaimo.
Otherwise, the
John Barsby Bulldogs did what they always
seem to do, advancing to the Subway Bowl
semifinals with a 40-6 win over the
Abbotsford Panthers in a chilly
late-afternoon contest at Thunderbird
Stadium. Three of Barsby’s first four
touchdowns came off Panthers turnovers.
Abbotsford’s
lone score came on pass play from
quarterback
Carter Williams
to receiver
Jesse Neufeld.
The Panthers'
Dallas Yassinsky
and
Tanner Storoshenko
(playing on a badly pulled quad muscle) both
had solid games in a losing cause.
Despite the
loss, Abbotsford head coach Jay Fujimura
applauded the effort of his kids and the
season they had, the seniors representing
the first full cycle of Panthers players
since the program was re-launched four years
ago.
“From day one, I
have always told them that at the end of the
year, only one (of 26) teams wins,” said
Fujimura. “Knowing that, we have to play for
more than (a championship). Our seniors have
worked so hard for four years. We don’t
measure it by wins and losses, but by
attitude, discipline and the way we play on
the field. I think we took a huge step this
year.”
BALLENAS
39 HUGH BOYD 13
Great offensive
balance and a second-half surge fuelled the
No. 3-ranked Ballenas Whalers to a 39-13 win
over Richmond’s Hugh Boyd Trojans on
Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the
Subway Bowl playoffs at UBC’s Thunderbird
Stadium.
Ballenas led
20-13 at the half, but with the Trojans
driving in the second half, intent on
evening the game, the Parksville-based
Whalers came away with a game-turning
interception and then turned it on the rest
of the way.
Despite the
loss, Hugh Boyd's
Dylan Craddock (off line)
turned in an exceptional performance.
MISSION
37 SOUTH DELTA 8
Aptly named, the
Mission Roadrunners ran, ran, ran and then
ran some more on Saturday night.
South Delta's
only points came with 40.9 seconds remaining
on a 17 yard touchdown pass and the ensuing
two-point convert.
Martin O'Hara,
South Delta's senior defensive back played
on of his best games of the year in a losing
cause.
VANCOUVER COLLEGE 35 NOTRE DAME 14
They may have
been playing without B.C.’s regular season
rushing leader in its offensive backfield,
yet the defending Subway Bowl Triple A
champion Vancouver College Fighting Irish
missed not a beat as they opened their
postseason march Saturday afternoon at UBC’s
Thunderbird Stadium.
Jugglers’
quarterback Joseph Gabriele was gutsy in the
face of adversity, having to leave the game
for much of the second quarter after taking
a big hit to his throwing shoulder.
The Jugglers
scored their points on a five-yard run in
the third quarter by
Ante Milanovic-Litre,
who was all over the field from both his
linebacker and fullback position, and in the
fourth quarter on a 62-yard touchdown pass.

Special Notice
Deepest Condolences
to the Reichelt Family
It is with deep regret that we announce
the sudden passing of Dylan Reichelt. Dylan, the son of BC Lions'
head trainer Bill Reichelt died in a car crash Saturday night when a
car that he was a passenger in rolled and hit a tree.
Bill, the longtime trainer (35
years) for the Lions, and his wife Cathy (who was a member of the
Lions staff for several years), live in Langley with their two other
children Keira and Dylan's twin brother Jesse.
"I have known Bill and Cathy for over
thirty years" said NSAAC President Jerry Mulliss. "We worked
together for the Lions and we have been involved in countless
activities in amateur football. I remember how proud and
excited Bill and Cathy were when Keira, and Dylan and Jesse
were born and I remember when the two boys would be around the
facility or on the sidelines. Dylan was a great kid and I feel
so sorry for the family. They must be devasted."
Please join us and keep the family in
your thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

High School Football
Playoff Report
ABBOTSFORD 37 HANDSWORTH 31
Like two young,
excited kids getting a chance to play a game
of pitch-and-catch on the same field that
Travis Lulay and Geroy Simon do on a regular
basis,
Carter Williams
and
Jesse Neufeld
had at it Saturday afternoon at B.C. Place
Stadium.
The pro team was
already long gone following its
early-morning practice, but if the Lions’
dynamic duo had stuck around long enough to
witness what the dynamic duo with the
Abbotsford Panthers accomplished in a
heart-stopping 37-31 win over North
Vancouver’s Handsworth Royals in the opening
round of the Subway Bowl Double AA playoffs,
they would no doubt have given it their
unanimous stamp of approval.
Williams threw
four touchdown passes, including one to
Dallas Yassinsky
and three to Neufeld - the last for 54
yards on the final play of the game to snap
a 31-31 tie and leave Handsworth players
kneeling in stunned disbelief on the field.
“You just have
to keep fighting for it,” said Neufeld, who
admitted the moment still hadn’t fully sunk
in following a fourth quarter that had begun
with the scored tied 8-8 and a combined 52
points waiting to be scored. “I originally
thought they were going to pick it off, so I
was going to tackle the guy when he caught
it. But he missed it and I put my hands out,
caught it and just ran. Tomorrow, I am going
to wake up and the sun will be shining, and
I am going to be happy.”
Royals’
quicksilver Grade 10 quarterback
Michael LeMoine
proved himself to be impossible to stop off
draw plays, and when he went 54 yards for
the major with 7:23 left, Handsworth was
leading 23-16. Williams, however, came back
with touchdown passes of 68 and 25 yards to
Neufeld for a 31-23 lead with 1:51 left, the
first seeing Neufeld shed three Handsworth
tacklers at the 20-yard line on his way to
the end zone.
LeMoine,
however, took things into his own hands
again, this time scoring on a 45-yard
keeper, then completing a two-point convert
pass at the corner of the end zone to tie
the score 31-31 with 1:21 left.
That set the
stage for the Williams-to-Neufeld walk-off
home run.
The Panthers
face No. 1-ranked, undefeated B.C. champion
John Barsby in the quarterfinals on Friday
at UBC.
NOTRE DAME
34 MT. BOUCHERIE 21
Ante Milanovic-Litre
played like a
tsunami on Friday.
Notre Dame’s
6-foot-1, 210-pound
senior fullback
typified his team’s
straight-ahead
approach as the
Jugglers topped
Kelowna’s
travel-weary Mt.
Boucherie Bears
34-21 in the first
of three Subway Bowl
Triple A opening
round games played
Friday at B.C. Place
Stadium.
There was no slowing
Notre Dame’s senior
fullback Ante Litre,
who made huge gains
between the two
redzones, and also
found a way to score
his team’s first and
last touchdowns of
the game.
Litre took a 20-yard
screen pass from
quarterback Joe
Gabriele and dragged
would-be tacklers
all over the field
before breaking
through the plane
with 1:11 left in
the opening quarter
to tie the score
7-7, then scored
from one-yard out
late in the contest.
Notre Dame recovered
a fumble that
allowed
Milanovic-Litre to
peel off a 26-yard
run to the Mt.
Boucherie one-yard
line with 1:35
remaining. On the
next snap, he was
able to score second
major of the game.
The Jugglers take on
arch-rivals
Vancouver College at
8:00 pm Saturday at
UBC.
HUGH BOYD 14
ROBERT BATEMAN 13
The Hugh Boyd
Trojans have lost
enough close games
this season, that a
playoff nail-biter
against a team that
had already beaten
them this season
might not have
seemed like the
ideal way to begin
the post-season.
In a game that was
tied 7-7 at the
half, Boyd took a
14-7 lead with 5:13
left in the third
quarter.
Bateman, led on
defense by tackle
Kent Hicks,
found a way to get
themselves right
back in the contest,
capping a 73-yard
drive with a 35-yard
score.
However, Boyd
blocked the
game-tying PAT late
in the contest.
From there, the
Trojans - anchored
by offensive lineman
Dylan Craddock-
mounted a drive that
eat the majority of
the game clock to
preserve the narrow
victory, putting
them through to next
week’s quarterfinal
round against the
winner of Friday’s
contest between
Ballenas and Holy
Cross in Nanaimo.
SOUTH DELTA 33
KALAMALKA 12
The South Delta Sun

over Kalamalka.

Notre
Dame 13 at Vancouver College 27
VANCOUVER — In
the annual Archbishops’ Trophy clash Friday,
the No. 3-ranked Vancouver College Fighting
Irish topped the No. 5-ranked Notre Dame
Jugglers 27-13.
With the
victory, the defending B.C. AAA Champions
won the Western Conference title and earned
an opening round playoff bye next week.
Notre Dame (4-4, 3-2) finishes in third
place and could potentially meet the Irish
in the quarterfinal round.
The Irish
defense, led by senior
Stephen Blanchette
(linebacker, receiver,
quarterback) were able to hold the Jugglers'
running game.
The Notre Dame
offense and defense once again was led by
All Canadian linebacker/running back
Ante Milanovic-Litre
albeit in a losing cause.
John
Barsby 32 at South Delta 0
TSAWWASSEN —
B.C.’s No. 1-ranked team completed a second
straight undefeated regular season.
Nanaimo’s John
Barsby Bulldogs (8-0, 4-0) got 406 yards of
rushing on the day in a 32-0 win over the
South Delta Sun Devils (4-6, 1-3).
The Sun Devils,
featuring defensive back
Martin O'Hara,
fourth-place finishers in the West, draw
Okanagan-2 Kalamalka Lakers of Vernon.
Langley
8 at Seaquam 40
NORTH DELTA —
The Seaquam Seahawks are conference champs.
The North Delta-based Hawks (5-4, 2-1) won
the division banner with a 40-8 win over the
Langley Saints (0-7, 0-3) on Saturday,
scoring on its first three possessions and
moving into a three-way tie with both Holy
Cross and Hugh Boyd for first place in the
four-team loop.
Seaquam won the
three-way tiebreaker, however, boasting the
best point-for-and-against mark in the three
games the trip played against each other.
Seaquam was a plus-14, Hugh Boyd a minus-two
and Holy Cross a minus-14.
Mark Lego rushed
for both of Seaquam’s opening scores, the
first on an 18-yard run and the second on a
42-yard run. Lego, who carried just six
times, rushed for 106 yards and three
scores, adding another from 11 yards out in
the second half. Standout fullback/middle
linebacker
Jarren Ralf
was forced to watch from the sidelines as he
rested up with a minor injury.
Hugh
Boyd 17 at Handsworth 21
NORTH VANCOUVER
—
Michael LeMoine’s 57-yard
touchdown strike in the final minutes lifted
the host Handsworth Royals (3-5, 2-2) to a
come-from-behind win over Richmond’s
visiting Hugh Boyd Trojans in the only
non-conference game of the week.
Handsworth’s
other touchdowns came via a one-yard rush
and a 10-yard pass by LeMoine who finished
the day 13-of-23 for 325 yards and two TDs.
On the other
side of the ball Trojan's offensive lineman
Dylan Craddock
continued his dominating play on the
offensive line
Lord
Tweedsmuir 28 at St. Thomas More 38
BURNABY —
Mikey Carney
keeps playing like the MVP of B.C. high
school football, but B.C.’s No.
1-ranked team continues to show that they
have the personnel to take on all comers.
The Knights just
come in waves, and led by an outstanding
quarterback — Carney — STM jumped out
to an early 14-0 lead, then finished the
game by outscoring the Panthers 13-6 in the
second half.
Carney passed
for 253 yards, tossing a pair of touchdowns
to
Gio Trasolini
(172 yards in
receptions)
"Gio Trasolini
really stepped up his game and turned some
key catches into some really big gains. He
has so much ability and potential to be a
big play threat every time that he touches
the ball. I was very proud of the way he
played tonight because his speed is such a
threat to stretch the defence every time he
touches the ball." said Knights head coach
Bernie Kully.
The Knights
continue to get great support from junior rb/db
Seb Adugalski
and senior defensive back
Tim Jackson
Abbotsford 6 at
Mission 39
“As expected,
Abby gave us a good test on both sides of
the ball,” said Roadrunner head coach Kevin
Watrin.
Abbotsford
quarterback
Carter Williams
(Grade 11) went 18/33 for 233 yds and one TD
while
Jesse Neufeld
(Grade 12)pulled in 7 receptions for 115 yds
and
Dallas Yassinsky
(Grade 12) grabbed 7 catches for 68 yds and
one TD. Senior linebacker
Tanner Storoshenko
saw lots of action again on defense racking
up 8 unassisted tackles.
Rick
Hansen 6 at Robert Bateman 28
ABBOTSFORD —
With health returning to its lineup, the
Robert Bateman Timberwolves (6-2, 2-2)
locked down third place in the standings
with a 28-6 win over crosstown rival Rick
Hansen Hurricanes (2-7, 1-3).
Timberwolve's

tools to be an impact player at the next
level.

Weekly Football
Update
Vancouver College 54 at Carson Graham 27
The Vancouver
College Fighting Irish moved to within a win
of clinching the West conference title with
a decisive victory over the host Carson
Graham Eagles.
Led on defense
by
Stephen Blanchette
(LB, TE, QB) Vancouver College can clinch
the West if it can beat the rival Notre Dame
Jugglers in the annual Archbishops’ Trophy
game this coming week. The Irish have won
the last seven straight in the series.
West
Vancouver 3 at Notre Dame 27
The Notre Dame
Jugglers scored all of their points
unanswered over a dominating second-half of
play to rally from a 3-0 deficit for a 27-3
win over the West Vancouver Highlanders.
Joe Gabriele’s
touchdown run off a bootleg play was one of
the offensive highlights for the winners,
who also got a rushing major from
Ante Milanovic-Litre
who also racked up 12 tackles
from his middle linebacker position.
Handsworth 19 - South Delta 16
The Handsworth
Royals led by Grade 10 quarterback
Mike LeMoine
were stingy hosts to the South Delta Sun
Devils (Martin
O'Hara)
eking out a 19-16 victory to keep their
playoff hopes alive.
Mission
46 at Robert Bateman 0
The Mission
Roadrunners made a statement that they are
playing their best football of the season
when it matters most.
The Roadrunners
built a 26-0 halftime lead Friday at Rotary
Stadium on its way to a 46-0 win over the
host Robert Bateman Timberwolves , setting
the stage for a winner-take-all contest this
coming week against the Abbotsford Panthers
for first place in the Eastern Conference.
The contest
capped a nightmarish week for the
Timberwolves, who were 5-0 overall seven
days ago.
After referees
failed to show for its Friday game against
Abby Collegiate, the game was pushed back to
Monday afternoon. The Wolves lost that game
25-20, then had to face the toughest team in
their league with just three off days to
prepare.
Playing without
both their starting running backs the
'Wolves couldn't get anything going on
offense and despite steady play from
Kent Hicks
(Jr., OL/DL) did not have an answer for
what may be the best team in all of BC high
school football in 2011.
Seaquam
13 at Hugh Boyd 14 (OT)
The Hugh Boyd
Trojans, anchored on the offensive line by
Dylan Craddock, got back on even terms with the
football gods, while the Seaquam Seahawks
face a first or fourth scenario when they
wrap up the regular season next week.
The Trojans
went to overtime, for the second time in two
weeks this time coming away 14-13 winners
over the visiting Seahawks after Seaquam
went for the victory in OT but failed to
score on a two-point conversion attempt.
The reason
Seaquam went for the win was very sound. A
win would have clinched first place in the
conference, and if the play failed, Seaquam
would still be in the playoffs, with a
chance to finish first should it avoid an
upset in its league finale this coming
weekend against winless, visiting Langley
(0-6, 0-2).
As it stands
now, Holy Cross and Hugh Boyd have completed
their league seasons and each sits tied for
first at 2-1. Should Seaquam beat Langley,
there would be a three-way tie for first
place, but the Seahawks would win the
tiebreaker, which takes into account the
plus-minus differential up to a maximum of
15 points, in the games between the three
tied teams.
In that
scenario, Seaquam is a plus 14, Hugh Boyd a
minus 2 and Holy Cross a minus 12.
Double A rushing
leader Mark Lego carried 24 times 143 yards
in a losing cause while senior linebacker
Jarren Ralf
had 4 tackles..
Pitt
Meadows 0 at Abbotsford 40
ABBOTSFORD —
Over a season in which the No. 2-ranked
Mission Roadrunners have ruled the roost
among the elite of B.C. Double A teams,
geographic rivals the Abbotsford Panthers
find themselves in a unique position as the
regular season winds into its final two
weeks.
Behind a hungry
defense which recorded eight sacks as part
of a 40-0 win Thursday at Rotary Stadium
over the visiting Pitt Meadows Marauders , a
Panthers team which might have been lightly
regarded at the start of the season, finds
itself tied for first place in the Eastern
Conference.
Abbotsford,
playing its second game in four days
following a 25-20 Monday make-up win over
Robert Bateman, owns the top spot in the
conference pending the result of Friday’s
Mission-Bateman contest. Mission sits 7-2
overall, and 3-0 in league play.
In a true
schedule-maker’s dream finish to the regular
season, Abby plays at Mission next week to
complete the regular season.
Abbotsford
quarterback
Carter Williams
was 4-of-9 for 53 yards, but passed for two

Langley Rams 31 - Okanagan Sun 29
The BC Junior semi-finals were

tell the Langley Rams that as they eclipsed the Sun 31-29 to earn a
berth into the BC Conference Championship next final next Sunday in
Nanaimo.

High School Football
South
Delta 6 at Seaquam 0
An 11-yard
scoring pass in the third quarter proved to
be the only offence Saturday as the
all-Delta non-conference clash was won 6-0
by the Tsawwassen school.
Seaquam was led
by middle linebacker
Jarren Ralf’s nine
tackles while South Delta's defensive
backfield led by
Martin O'Hara
provided great coverage all day holding the
Seahawks passing game to a measly 28 yards.
W.J.
Mouat 20 at St. Thomas More 25
Mikey Carney,
Giovanni Trasolini,
Tim Jackson
(4 tackles) and
Sebastian Adugalski
(8 carries, 52 yds) all played big roles in
leading the No. 1-ranked St. Thomas More
Knights to a 25-20 win over the No. 2-ranked
W.J. Mouat Hawks of Abbotsford in an epic
Burnaby Lakes showdown.
Mikey Carney
threw a touchdown pass on the Knights’ first
offensive series and later set up another
score with a long gainer late to set
up the winning score as STM (1-0, 4-0)
remained unbeaten on the season.
With 1:28 left
in the half, Carney went over the middle to
long and lanky receiver Gio Trasolini for a
44-yard touchdown that put St. Thomas More
on top 19-14 at the half with the promise of
more offensive fireworks in the second half.
In the fourth
quarter Knights started with the ball back
at their own 32-yard line with 2:35 left,
and went 68 yards in 37 seconds, capping
things off with Carney’s seven-yard
touchdown strike to Trasolini.
Vancouver College 29 at West Vancouver 8
The No. 3-ranked
Vancouver College scored on its first two
offensive series Friday, en route to a 29-8
win over the depleted West Vancouver
Highlanders. The game marked the return to
service of middle linebacker
Stephen Blanchette.
Notre
Dame 28 at Mt. Douglas 59
In the regular
season opener for both teams No. 4-ranked
and host Rams rolled to a decisive 59-28 win
over the No. 5-ranked Notre Dame Jugglers in
the Western Conference opener for both teams
at Victoria’s Royal Athletic Park despite
outstanding play from Juggler's middle
linebacker
Ante Milanovic-Litre.
Handsworth 6 at
Windsor 0
Grade 10 quarterback
Michael LeMoine’s
touchdown pass late
in the fourth
quarter made the
difference Friday as
the Handsworth
Royals opened
conference play with
a 6-0 win over the
Windsor Dukes.
Abbotsford 42 at Rick Hansen 20
Carter Williams threw for three touchdowns, including a pair to Jesse Neufeld, and a ball-hawking defence did the rest as the Abbotsford Panthers doubled up on crosstown rival Rick Hansen in the Eastern Conference opener for both teams on Friday.
Defensive leader Tanner Storoshenko racked up 11 solo tackles while Dallas Yassinski recorded an interception.
Congratulations Nick!

W.J.
Mouat 42 at Vancouver College 14
Vancouver
College, playing without standout linebacker
Stephen Blanchette,
dropped a 42-14 decision against W.J. Mouat.
“It’s a win that
can give you a lot of confidence,” said
Mouat head coach Denis Kelly. “But I just
hope we keep it all in perspective. Our four
non-conference games are over now, and they
don’t count for anything.”
On Friday, the
Irish open league play at West Vancouver,
while the Hawks do likewise in Burnaby
against No. 1 St. Thomas More.
Rick
Hansen 6 at Seaquam 33
Grade 11 Seaquam
Seahawks running back Mark Lego has put all
the pieces together on Saturday carrying 12
times for 162 yards and three scores as the
North Delta school topped its Abbotsford
foes 33-6.
“We hit hard, we
had the physical edge and we were playing at
home,” said Seaquam head coach Kris Pechet,
whose team led 20-0 at halftime. “We have
played some pretty high calibre opposition
thus far and maybe Rick Hansen hasn’t played
the same kind. So maybe we’re ahead at this
stage.”
Jarren Ralf
added Seaquam’s other score, hauling in a
15-yard pass from quarterback Adam Dobie.
The Seahawks
will play arch-rival South Delta at home on
Saturday.....1:30 pm kick off.
Hugh
Boyd 17 at South Delta 12
After opening
the season with three straight losses and
then trailing at halftime on Saturday,
Richmond’s Hugh Boyd Trojans, featuring
senior offensive lineman
Dylan Craddock,
decided it was time to break the streak and
proved to be too much for the host Sun
Devils which are led on defense by
Martin O'Hara..
Next up for Hugh
Boyd: bye. Next up for South Delta: at
Seaquam, Saturday 1:30 pm.
Terry
Fox 10 at Notre Dame 21
“Notre Dame
played Notre Dame football,” said ND
head coach Richard Scott after his Jugglers
(0-2) wrapped up non-conference play Friday
at Burnaby Lakes with a 21-10 win over the
No. 5-ranked Terry Fox Ravens of Port
Coquitlam. “The Jugglers took the physical
route.”
Led on defense
by their outstanding middle linebacker
Ante Milanovic-Litre
(who also had a great game at fullback),
the hard-hitting Jugglers were able to make
big plays when they needed to.
Next Up: Notre
Dame open their League season at Mt. Douglas
on Friday.
AbbotsfordCollegiate 6 at Holy Cross 13
The Crusaders
led 13-0 at the half and then were shut out
in the second half by a stingy Abbotsford
defense led by
Tanner Storoshenko
and
Dallas Yassinsky
who had 8
catches for 120 yards & 1 TD. Yassinsky
also 1 run for 10 yards & 2 kick-off returns
for 37 yards for a total of 167 all-purpose
yards. Quarterback
Carter Williams
passed for 244 yards going 20 for 41
including one touchdown.
Next Up:
Abbotsford travels to Rick Hansen, Friday
3:15 pm.
Langley
6 at Robert Bateman 48
The new kids on
the block are putting up big numbers and
showing they belong. The Robert
Bateman Timberwolves, featuring grade 11
offensive/defensive lineman
Kent Hicks,
dominated the Langley Saints 48-6 on
Friday.
Bateman will
enjoy a bye this week before taking on Pitt
Meadows on Oct 14th.

CIS and NCAA Training
Camps Open
August 18th was the official opening
date for all CIS football teams and for several NSAAC clients is
their first taste of collegiate football. The NCAA opened
their camps about a week earlier.
After his first week of NCAA Div 2
action Tyler Fong (SFU) reported that it was tough but he is really
enjoying the challenge.
At Bishop's University Nick Blanchette
is enjoying a stellar camp.
Nick is loving Bishop's Training Camp
and thriving. He's been told he will factor into their game plan
this year and is the best Freshman at camp.
We caught the UBC Alumni Game on Sunday
and the T'Birds with Ross Hilliam look to be much improved
particularly on offense.

Football Seasons Set
to Begin
Although the CFL has been rolling along
for the past six weeks and the NFL has finally settled its money
war, the most important football is getting under way.
That's right - football that's played for the sheer pleasure of
the game - Junior, University, High School and Community
programs are gearing up for their respective seasons.
BC Junior Football kicked off on
the weekend with a full slate of regular season games:
Okanagan Sun 40 - Kamloops Broncos 14
Vancouver Island Raiders 39 - Langley
Rams 13
Westshore (Victoria) Rebels 37 -
Chilliwack Huskers 8
All CIS teams (including
UBC) open their training camps on August 18 across the country while
SFU (NCAA Div 11) opens their camp next week.
The official starting date for BC
High School Training Camps is August 28.
Many of the Community programs
are under way and most begin playing within the next couple of weeks
We urge you to get out and support the
kids and young men and women playing in your area. Most High
School and Community programs depend on the support of parents and
volunteers - they don't have big budgets and nobody gets paid to do
what they do.
Without the good work put in by all the
folks in amateur football there would be NO Canadian players in the
CFL - think about it!
Go to
www.playfootball.bc.ca

Team BC Defeats
Manitoba
Team BC's opening game in the U18
Football Canada Cup it took a while for BC's offense to get

first half. Leading 1 - 0 at the half BC scored a field goal
in the third quarter to go ahead 4 -0 but in the fourth quarter it
was all BC. First an 18 yard touchdown pass from Jordan
Deverill to Sam Davies followed by a 2 yard touchdown run by Mikey
Carney, which came as a result of a spectacular 30 yard run also by
Mikey Carney, sealed the game for BC with an 18-0 victory.

Carney, Trasolini and
Adugalski Win Gold in 4 x 100m
It was billed as the marquee event of
the 2011 BC High School Track & Field Championships and the boys
from St Thomas More did not disappoint.
Entering the finals with the fastest
qualifying time all the pressure was on lead-off runner
Mikey Carney
(Grade 11), #2
Seb Adugalski (Grade 10), #3 Marwin
Empanaida and the anchor
Gio Trasolini. With near
flawless exchanges the boys blew away the competition (made up of
Grade 11's & 12's) to win the 4 x 100m relay in an excellent time of
43.51 sec. Check out the video at
www.youtube.com/thensaac
Giovanni Trasolini also ran to a fourth
place finish in the Men's individual 100m. He was the only
10th grader competing against a field of dominated by grade 12

where he finished in 7th place and also the long jump where he
placed fourth with a jump of 6.26 m.

Great Results for
Track & Field Athletes
The Independent Schools Track & Field
Championship held under sunny (finally) skies at Swangard Stadium on
Tuesday and Wednesday provided some great results for
Giovanni
Trasolini,
Sebastian Adugalski and
Mikey Carney.
Giovanni set the tone on Tuesday by
blowing away the competition and easily winning the 200m in a
personal best time of 22.6. Mikey Carney, running in the
second heat also won his race but was 2/100 sec off qualifying for
the Provincial Championships. Then later in the day Giovanni along
with Sebastian and Mikey joined forces to win the Gold Medal in the
Senior 4 x 100m relay in a time of 43.9. Sebastian then went on to
take the Silver Medal in the 400m hurdles.
On Wednesday Sebastian opened the day by
winning the Silver Medal in the Senior 110m hurdles (this was the
first time he had run this distance over 39" hurdles). Then it
was on the Long Jump for Sebastian where, after two faults, he
easily outdistanced his opponents in his third and final jump
winning the Gold Medal and qualifying for the Provincial
Championships.
Next up on the Track was the 400m and
once again Giovanni proved his dominance by winning the Gold Medal
in a time of 52.96. Then it was on to the 100m where both
Giovanni and Mikey won their heats and qualified for the
Provincials.
The final event of the day was the 4 x
100m relay where Giovanni and Mikey both ran but finished second.
Giovanni was named the winner of the
Male Aggregate.
Congratulations boys!

Spring Break Update
The past two weeks have been a very busy
time for some of our NSAAC athletes.
First, the Provincial Basketball
Championships followed by the annual Senior Bowl football camp. We
have just returned from both events much in need of a Spring Break
ourselves!
Basketball:
The frustration for the Vancouver
College Fighting Irish continues. Not since 1967 have they
raised the AAA Boys Championship trophy and, sadly, 2011
proved to be another "close, but no cigar" experience for the Irish.
Heading into the tournament, which truly was a wide-open one this
year, the Irish swept into the final full of hopes to make it a AAA
Double - football and basketball - win.
Coming up against a very athletic team
in the RC Palmer Griffins, the Irish got out to a big lead (19 - 2)
in the first quarter but the Griffins roared back riding some
outstanding 3-point shooting and aggressive defense. The final
result? - the Griffins won their first Championship 71-63 and the
Irish had to settle for the Silver Medal once again.
Congratulations to
Reiner Theil of the Irish as he was selected to the
First All Star Team. Check the video of the Semi Final game

"Special Teams account for 1/3 of

How many times have you heard that from
coaches? True, special teams are a critical part of the

craft? It's a fact that the majority of coaches either don't
know how to teach the correct techniques or simply don't spend a lot
of time in instruction.
Here's a solution for you:.....PRECISION

Lapa, 51, died on Sunday morning from an
apparent heart attack following an early morning workout while he
was on the way home to join his fellow Terry Fox coaches to watch an
NFL playoff game.
He was without doubt one of the most
popular teacher/coaches at Terry Fox and was described by both
students and staff as a person who always had time to spend with you
no matter what else was going on.
To quote one of students: "He treated
everyone like family. A big, jolly man who was always the one
to push us to our limits and to strive to be the best. We did
not lose a teacher, but rather, gained an angel."
From a personal perspective, Carey has
been a good friend for over 30 years and we will really miss his
thoughtfulness, caring and great sense of humor.
Carey, a native of Kamloops, attended
Kamloops High School prior to joining the UBC Thunderbirds where he
was a member of the 1982 Vanier Cup winning team.....a team that has
been described by TSN as the best football team in the history of
the then CIAU.
Carey, along with his 1982
teammates was inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame and in 1983
he was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL but opted to
return to the Thunderbirds to complete his degree. He was
named to the Canada West All Star team in 1985.
Following teaching/coaching stints at
Kamloops High School and Centennial Secondary, Carey joined the
staff at Terry Fox in 1998 and was an integral member of the
coaching staff that bought the Ravens to the pinnacle of high school
football in BC. He was a member of countless Senior Bowl and
Western Canada All Star Camp coaching staffs and always brought a
cheerful and fun-loving attitude with him.
Carey is pre-deceased by his father
Andrew and his brother Kevin. Our condolences go to his mother
Erna and brother Kent as well to all the students and staff of the
Terry Fox Ravens.
He will be sorely missed.

Despite going 3-1 at the AA Girls

Sarah Hughes, could do
was finish in 9th place (out of 16). On the good side the
Knights defeated arch-rival Holy Cross Crusaders in two straight
sets in their final game.

AAA Varsity
Subway Bowl
Congratulations to
Nick and
Stephen Blanchette,
Brydon Cotter and
Reiner Theil and
the Vancouver College Fighting Irish on their outstanding 28-14
victory over the Terry Fox Ravens in the 2010 AAA Subway Bowl.
The win marks the first championship
in 16 years (since 1994) and avenges their 2006 loss to the
Ravens.
Despite being in the Championship
game six times since 1996 the Frank Gnup Trophy had eluded the
Irish's grasp.....sometimes by the slimmest of margins (1996:
25-22 loss to Richmond; 2004: 21-19 loss to Rick Hansen; 2005:
7-6 loss to WJ Mouat; 2006: 21-18 loss to Terry Fox).
Finally the Frank Gnup Trophy will
reside at 5400 Cartier Street in Vancouver for at least the next
twelve months.
Congratulations to Coach Todd
Bernett and all the Irish players.
Game Highlights will be posted soon
AA Varsity Subway
Bowl
The John Barsby Bulldogs completed
their perfect season with a 53-27 shellacking of the Handsworth
Royals.
The Barsby defense, led by Junior
defensive end Jordan Kuziek,
played its usual aggressive style while Handsworth could
find no way of stopping the Barsby offense which, surprisingly,
featured a potent passing attack.
The Bulldogs, known for their
punishing running game, used the run to set up three passing
touchdowns which is more than the entire season output.
The win marks the second AA
Championship for the Bulldogs in the last ten years....their
first coming in 2000 with a 22-14 win over the now defunct John
Oliver Jokers.
Congratulations to Coach Rob
Stevenson and the Barsby Bulldogs!
AAA Junior
Varsity Subway Bowl
Hoping to make it a perfect day for
the Fighting Irish, the Vancouver College JV's took the field
against the powerful Mt Douglas Rams. But it was not to be
as the Rams prevailed with a decisive 43-28 victory to win their
second consecutive Junior Varsity Championship.
After defeating Mission 61-21 in
2009 to win the AA Championship the JV Rams followed the Seniors
into the higher AAA Conference.
AA Junior Varsity
Subway Bowl
Like the JV Fighting Irish the JV
Barsby Bulldogs hoped to make it a perfect day but, alas, it
also was not to be.
The bulldogs ran into a red-hot
Mission Roadrunner team and went down to defeat 38-8.
For the Mission Roadrunner the win
marked their first ever football championship for the school.
Congratulations!
